The Mouse Trap board game, a longtime family favorite, is always good for zany action and lots of laughs. Scurry around the board collecting cheese and stealing cheese from other players…but watch out for the trap! While kids are engaged in playing the Mouse Trap game, they can also practice valuable skills in construction, cause and effect, and decision-making. As they interact with the trap, a working, multi-part machine, kids can practice construction skills. They can also work on understanding cause and effect as they understand that each action causes a reaction. And players can practice decision making as they analyze the situation and determine the next best step. Most importantly, kids can have so much fun playing this wacky game!

    Classic game with some drawbacks
My kiddo has been begging for this game for ages. She had “games”on her Christmas list from Santa and he ended up bringing her this one. She is 7 and I assumed she could set this up on her own but she did need a bit of help from me, mostly because she was trying to work too quickly without really building the game in order.Once it was all built we had to do quite a few test rounds because once the marble was kicked out of the bucket and then supposed to arrive at the end of the ramp and go into another bucket, it would miss the bucket every time. We had been playing the game on an ottoman, so we put it on a flatter surface and this seemed to help about 75% of the time…its still annoying when it doesn’t make it into the bucket but we can’t figure out why.It takes a while to setup the game and then of course you have to break it all down after to put it into the box, so it’s a bit of a time investment. It’s cute and I’m sure it’ll get lost of play.

Check diff sites. Big price range
Tricky for kids. Everything must snap in correctly. Don’t disassemble just store on shelf or table

Just like I remembered – sturdy & works great!
I bought this for my son (4 going on 5) for Christmas. He instantly loved it, as did his brother. They’ve played with it a ton, and really enjoy the game! They are both able to reset the contraption fairly easily. The cage is touchy, which is annoying if you accidentally bump it during game play. But, that is by design, so no reason to take a star off for that.I wish everything broke down a bit smaller, but we were able to fit it back in the box without taking every single piece back apart for storage. I think this will be a family favorite game for quite some time, just like it was when I was a kid!Note – I bought this version over the “anniversary” version also available on Amazon during Christmas 2021 based on some reviews noting quality issues with the anniversary version. I can’t speak to that, but this one works great!

    Big disappointment in quality
I bought this Mouse Trap game with several other well known games for our 8 young grandchildren. It is such a big disappointment as it is poorly made. Though it is bright in color and eye appeal, every time we try to play the game we experience problems of it not working smoothly in all sections of the game so the game never yet has happened. Every time we try, we give up disappointed. The base that supports all of the pieces to work, is poorly made. Don’t buy!!

oversimple gameplay, but mechanics are fun
the mechanism worked very well each time we set it off…the one I had as a kid didn’t seem to have the same success rate. It’s a bit different than the one from the 70s….for one thing, the hand-crank to start the whole thing off is no longer included. However, a new piece is the broom that picks the ball up in a bucket and drops it onto the bathtub launch above. Also, the one from the 1970s made building the mousetrap part of the game. HERE, you put the entire mechanism together at the start, and the game now consists of moving around the board, trying to trap other mice until youve collected a completed cheese circle (6 cheese wedges). The biggest disappointment is the game play. I had this game but I don’t think I ever actually played the game as a child–the attraction was the whole Rube Goldberg contraption that was fun to play with on its own. Strategically, you really don’t have a lot of control of how things go and it is a fairly simple game of moving your mouse around the board.
