Time to grab the ‘bull’ by the horns and hope other players don’t call your bluff! Balderdash game features compelling, unbelievable-but-true content in five fun categories: ‘famous’ people, words, initials, laws, and movies. Take turns being the Balderdasher! Roll the die and chose a categorythen read the choice out loud for the group. Each player writes what they think the real definition or explanation is, and the Balderdasher writes down the real answer. Then the ‘Dasher’ reads them all aloud, and you hope that yours is the most believable! What is Hkan Forsberg famous for? What does P.A.S.S. stand for? Can you define ‘goffering’? Everyone then votes on which card they believe to contain the true answer. The real fun begins when the phony definitions are read along with the legitimate ones! You earn points in a few ways, one of which is when other players vote for your balderdash. You’ll laugh out loud as you hear the hilarious, clever, creative definitions! This party favorite includes clue cards, game board, movers, die, and instructions. Colors and decorations may vary.

Fun Game — Components are a little cheap
This has been my favorite game to play for the last 25 years! The newer version with different items (instead of just definitions) is by far the best version, if only the manufacturer didn’t “cheap out” by making some of the components so cheap. Comparing this to my older version, you can tell that the cards are a little thinner card stock, and the boxes to hold the cards aren’ even close to the thick chipboard used in previous versions. The board is also redesigned (it is smaller); however it only is 15 squares instead of the 22, so your game will play faster. We play this game a couple times a year in our group and laugh ourselves silly. No wonder Tom Vassal and his buddies all have this listed in their top 3 BEST games that make us laugh (if you don’t know who that is search the “dice tower” on youtube.) I’ve enjoyed playing this game ALMOST every time I’ve played it. Fair warning though: non-creative people suck the joy out of this game. Younger players also do not make this game as fun as it could be. Sure, I know I am coming across like a jerk complaining about slower players or “dud” answers, but a slow player that consistently puts out lame answers that nobody in their right mind would pick really extinguishes some of the fun. Plus many times these “dud” answers take twice as long to write because the player “just couldn’t think of anything”. I’ve played the game before with a few people that did this every time and it really ruined the game. My pal even asked me that night why I liked the game so much afterwards because he thought it was a real “downer” of a game. Trust me – it’s not. It’s one of the best games I own for laughs. I would recommend that you double the points awarded when playing to move the game along at a faster speed. In my experience 1 hour of this game is great, but it begins to wear down after 60-70 minutes. (Of course this was with the old board that had 23+ spots – the newer version has 15 so the game should move fast enough). This game is worth the 15 bucks you’ll spend. My entire family has been playing it for 25 years or so with me whenever I go visit them. My brother insists we play whenever we get together. We still laugh about stuff we wrote over 20 years ago in my grandma’s house during Thanksgiving. If you have a good combination of people that are quick enough to write fake definitions, made up movie plots, or somewhat believable initials (Ex: PPA is the Public Peanut Association, the Perfect Peach Association, or the Planetary Probe Analysts — which one?) Guaranteed you’ll laugh no matter who wins.

    A fun game of bluffing.
Classic game with a new look. For those that haven’t played this. This is a very good strategy game and it’s also a game of bluffing. So if you’re good at lying and you want to see how many people can believe your you would really enjoy this game. I will say in the original game my in-laws thought. I knew every definition on the card but honestly, there’s so many words that unless you have photogenic memory, you’re not gonna remember all of them you might remember handful of them, but not all of them unless somehow they all apply to you

    Always a family favorite game
This game is too fun, and you’ll find your family playing it for hours on end. The object of this game is to write a fake yet compelling definition or answer to the clue assigned to the “caller” each turn. It’s a bluffing game, so your primary goal is to get as many people to guess the fake answer or definition you submitted to the caller. The updated version means it has all new data from previous versions. This game is suitable for teens and adults with a vivid imagination and sense of humor. Definitely play Balderdash at dinner parties where there are more than five people. If more than five, you can double up and play with teams of two people. The price is a steal considering all the enjoyment you’re going to receive from playing. Happy bluffing!

Fun party game! Everyone can play.
Great game. Play with as many players as you have pens and note pads for. The game is pretty simple. The current player chooses a card that has a word on it with a definition. Then the player reads the word to all the other players. Each other player writes their own definition for the word and the current player writes the correct one on a piece of paper. Then when all entries are handed to the current player they read them all aloud. Each other player tries to choose the correct one. After every one has secretly chosen their favorite the current player reveals the correct answer. If you guessed it correctly you get points, if someone guessed your definition you get points, if you actually wrote the correct definition you get more points. Play until each player has read a card themselves and tally the points. Easy. Everyone has a great time making odd or weird definitions. Laughter ensues. A couple notes. Make sure all of the pads are the same or you would be able to tell who submitted which answer, also read the answers in your head first as handwriting can be difficult and will tip off other players its not the right choice. Be creative, have fun, learn stuff….play.

Easy to learn, fun for all ages
Most of the time I can’t talk my family or friends into playing a game that takes 40 minutes to teach and requires two hours of strategy playing and complicated rules. Balderdash is a fun, easy to pick up game that all ages can understand and enjoy while laughing at some purely absurd answers. It’s become one of the main games in our rotation.Learn the basics in 5 minutes and average game play is about an hour (maybe an hour and a half with 5 or more people). I will say repeatability with this game gets a bit less fun as you learn the tone of the true answer cards (the ones you’re trying to detect while supplying your own fake answers to fool your competitors) and can pick them out amongst your friends cards. But overall this game is silly and with some witty friends it is pure comedy, just playing the game can be more fun than winning.

Excellent game. Balderdash means senseless talk or writing; nonsense. That’s what the game is about, how well can one bluff. Go ahead and try it. Not ideal for children under 10.

i played the original in the big red box a long time ago and i realized that i missed playing it so i tracked this down and bought it. i was worried this was not the same game because it looks so different, but it is plus more. the original just had obscure words for you to use but this new version also has several other categories to choose from, in theory youre supposed to roll a die to select but im just going to play with the words. There is also a game board now and pieces to track player points.if i had to complain i would have to mention the answer cards. each player, every round has to write their answer on a paper. there are nowhere near enough papers in the pad to last more than a few games, and there doesnt seem to be a way to get more of the pads. they are fancier than the old pads which were on thin paper and seemed to have hundreds of pages. its annoying as well because so much of this box is empty space, it has 2 boxes with the question cards, die & game pieces and a board and a thin pad. they should load this thing up with pads, and make them a lower quality.
